Below is the nomination letter.

Dear Green Bay Packer Fan Hall of Fame,

I am nominating one of Southern California’s preeminent Packer boosters, Jim Silberberg, for induction into your hall.  Born and raised in Milwaukee, Jim and his family moved to Southern California in the late 1960’s.  However, unlike other sports fans who change allegiance along with their address, Jim brought his loyalty to the Green Bay Packers with him.

Jim has not only been a voice for transplanted Wisconsinites, he has also turned on literally thousands of Southern Californians to the Green and Gold.  He has done this with an unbridled enthusiasm and an encyclopedic knowledge of the team that he is willing to share with everyone he meets.  More specifically, he has accomplished this through two websites.  The first is Greenbay3peat.com, also known as “The Southern California Green Bay Packer Fan Report,” which is updated throughout both the season and offseason with schedules, statistics and other valuable Packer information.  The second website, “packercheesecompany.com,” features fan songs and videos that showcase Jim’s sense of humor.  On this site, Jim even makes his songwriting debut, collaborating with musicians Rico Belled and Tim Keehn on the songs, “It’s The Cheese” and “Go Pack Go.”

But perhaps the most inspiring thing about Jim is that he has accomplished all of this despite seven eye surgeries for both cataracts and detached retinas.  These conditions have forced Jim into permanent disability at the age of 53, and limited his eyesight to only 15 yards in front of him, but they have not limited his undying support for the Green Bay Packers.  In fact, every Sunday Jim has his own seat, front and center, at The Park Bar and Grill, a Packer bar located here in the San Fernando Valley.  When there are prime time games, the party shifts to Jim’s apartment, since he is unable to drive at night.  This miniature Packer museum is affectionately dubbed “Lambeau Field West” by his friends.  I can personally attest to this, having been there; but if you don’t believe me, see the attached photo.  There is such a plethora of Packer memorabilia that most of it needs to be stored away in order to create walking room.  It’s quite a shrine.

Well, what more can I say?  Actually, I could probably write another 5,000 words why Jim Silberberg deserves to be in the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, but I hope these 400 will suffice.  Thank you for your consideration, and I hope you will be meeting Jim this season at Lambeau Field.

Jim’s friend and fellow Packer fan,

Chad G. Held
